Together with the design and communication studio
Fuenfwerken we created a generative graphic design for HelmholtzZentrum Munich’s 2009 annual report. The booklet’s design was honored with one of the most prestigious design awards, the iF communication design award.
Using Processing-based tree structures we were able to generatively illustrate the main focus of the report, the integration of HelmholtzZentrum in research associations and their cooperative networks. The data, which describes the HelmholtzZentrum‘s hierarchical structures, were read and the hierarchical arrangement was then made visually comprehensible as recursive tree in sunburst diagrams. The system for these diagrams is based on the programs presented in Chapter M. 5 of our book,
„Generative Gestaltung“ Using Processing-based tree structures we were able to illustrate the main focus of the report, the integration of Helmholtz in research associations and their cooperative networks.
