Lattice Cyrtoidea

April 25th, 2011 - 11:37 pm

Inspired by some of the images in Ernst Haeckels »Kunstformen der Natur« (Art Forms in Nature) Chris did some tests with toxiclibs lattice mesh builder and GLSL shading. We uploaded the source code for you to download as well as some more images to flickr.

By the way, if you haven’t heard of »Kunstformen der Natur« so far, this is a wonderful book by Ernst Haeckel which is in the public domain. It features all sorts of illustrations of the natural world and is a perfect starting point if you‹re doing some research for organic shapes. You can download the whole book (400 pages) as pdf on this website.

Skype visualization

April 1st, 2011 - 5:38 pm

We finally finished and sent out the Skype visualization poster we have been working on for quite a while. As mentioned in one of our earlier blogposts, it visualizes the Skype log files between Julia and myself over the last 3 years. Since then we virtually shared everything: from the development of the »Generative Gestaltung« book, to our first projects as a team, to the establishment of our studio and even the creation of this poster.

We obviously love Skype and we definitely love data graphics. What, then, makes more sense than designing a data graphic of our communication? All our Skype conversations and sent files from our first talk in 2008 to our last conversation on New Year’s Eve 2010 are visualized in this data graphic. To sum it up we wrote a total of 62,676 messages consisting of 2,531,434 chars.

Good School

April 1st, 2011 - 2:23 am

Hamburg based »Good School« invited Cedric to talk about Microsoft’s Kinect controller and its impact on interaction design and how it could be used to develop new marketing concepts. The talks will be on April 9th and May 18th.

Good School is a school mainly for designers, consultants and managers from the senior level of advertising agencies and was founded in April 2009 by Simone Ashoff who was working for BBDO InterOne and Jung von Matt/next in the past.

We are looking forward to meeting some new creative people and to develop some quick new concepts and ideas.

fragments of RBG

March 21st, 2011 - 3:11 pm

Cedric Kiefer

We just added another project we were working on last year to the work section of our website.
»fragments of RGB« is an interactive installation experimenting with illusion and perception. The classic LED screen as a medium was simulated and disintegrated by the creation of a pixel-like LED optic with the ability to change and transform with the viewer’s movement and, hence, his perspective and point of view.

More details and some vimeo and flickr links can be found at the »fragments of RGB« project page

February 16th, 2011 - 8:11 pm

Cedric Kiefer

We just added a new article for our upcoming lab section where we are going to post some more experimental projects and tutorials in the future. The first tutorial will cover two main questions. How to generate 3d contour maps in processing using a blob detection library. And how to get greyscale heightmaps that are needed for the map creation. Have fun!

Live Visuals at Baalsaal

Cedric Kiefer

We had a great weekend in Hamburg installing and playing some live visuals at »baalsaal« for the live performance of the fantastic »pupkulies & rebecca«. We promise to start working on a documentation soon and especially finishing the projection mapping framework we have written for this purpose, so we can tell a bit more about it as well.
